Idea Outline
WWWSMART*BUS is a system to make most intelligent use of public transport. When Where and Which bus should I take? This system lets you know when a bus will arrive at the bus stop

The Challenge
This system will allow citizens who use public transport Useful facts when a bus will arrive at the bus stop or to know where is the bus at a certain time. The Solution

In many cities and many places you never know if and when a bus will arrive at the bus stop.
This is often a reason for not using the bus.. Instead, each time you want to catch a bus is very useful to know when it will arrive!
This system is based on wireless techniques of detecting the passage of buses in some points of the route,
on data collection and storage in database,and on a web application that allows you to provide the information on the internet.
It Should use existing urban structures (traffic lights, antennas, host-spot wi-fi internet, etc.),
objects that will accommodate a network of sensors that communicate using the protocol MQTT wireless.
Each bus is equipped with a transponder to report its position at predetermined points;
these points forward the information

Competences of the applicant
I'm java programmer, web applications and databases expert primarily for financial structures. I also deal with application servers and applications for data traffic.

    nice idea but I know soluttions which are solving this problem yet, why do we need another one?

    I add here the missing notes.
    Each bus is equipped with a transponder to report its position at predetermined points;
    these points forward the information to the transition to a sensor that can pass this information on the internet.
    Here, a web application saves all the data in a database, and also publishes them allowing users to make queries, statistics and so on.

    With a mobile phone and the internet will be possible to know the estimated time of arrival of a certain bus at a certain stop.
    This feature makes the public transportation system more intelligent and useful to citizens.

    It also allows you to finance itself through advertisements.

    There are developed solutions for this problem. In Spain many cities offers a mobile app for smartphones with this information.

    The idea is good but I think that the problem might be solved easily and more precisely in term of position by using gps+3G tracking exploiting the actual structural network (and avoiding further expenses for receivers). Each bus has a code and the system has to be updated (e.g., by the driver) regarding the route that bus will cover. At this point with an app you will always have the position of the bus (with the remaining time to reach a particular bus stop) and the timetable of that route. At the same time the gps location might be useful for other purposes (e.g., technical/medical assistance). Hope this might help!

    hi, Yes, but the technique based on GPS+3g is not in my opinion the best solution, and in effect it does not spread.
    It requires gsm + internet very large, so many cities,big and especially small towns, today do not have these services (probably not even tomorrow ..)
    My solution is an open, scalable and much cheaper. It does not require full internet coverage, but only a few access points.
    Does not require the presence of telephone coverage.
    If a city creates a network first, also many more will join them by adding sensors and using the same monitoring application and the same database.
    In addition, the sensor network can transmit much more information not only positions of buses and cars but environmental signals, traffic, light, sound, etc..).For me, the city "2.0" thus begins.

    Well, in Finland where I live now and mostly in Europe, buses don't have a fixed number. Each bus has an electric board which shows the number of itself. Therefore, The bus for the route is changing everyday and they just push the button to change the number of the bus. So, the question is how can this project's technology be applied into this situation? How can you know which bus will go to this station if the bus which yesterday went to this station will go to another route the next day?

    Hi. Well, the transponder is a small object, it is not fixed in the bus so it can be moved.
    But this is not necessary: the association transponder-bus is logical, not physical. Each transponder has an identification number aliases, and the association of this number with the bus number's is made by the web application, and can be changed easily.
    For example, today the transponder AD778456 traveling in the bus 20.
    Tomorrow the bus 20 becomes 8; then the web application combines the messages of the AD778456 transponder to line 8 and so on.
