|NosoEx - Hygiene is Life|

NosoEx is a computer based system to gather data for hand disinfections. Later, this data is fully automated validated and processed in order to create reliable data. Lastly, the data is fed into an award system in order to motivate staff.
The low compliance rate for hand disinfection in hospitals has caused an uproar in the recent past. This has brought a rising percentage of nosocomial infections, leading to immense pain and suffering for those affected. About 60% of all those cases can be avoided by propper disinfection, because most of the germs are introduced by staff and visitors. Nowadays, high standards and strict rules are already in action, but the low compliance to those caused by flawed workflow, tight schedules and adverse leadership keep the numer of new infections high and even spread them further amongst wards. In order to contain the diseases, it is necesarry to involve staff without judgement, and furthermore motivate everyone of the people who pledged their professional life to helping others once again.
Our aim is to develop a system that monitors hand disinfections of every staff member, but without exposing them to a risk of penalties. Therefore, the whole process of data analysis and processing should be fully automated. Our maingoal with this is to generate reliable data for the management of hospitals, but yet not providing personalised data that could be exploited for tracking or warnings. This means that the rawdata will be gathered by personalised devices but the evaluation will be pseudonymised. Only the affected staff member will have the ability to check their own past performances. The hospital only receives statistical relevant data. In addition, we are planning to implement an award system that draws winners for a raffle out of the best performers in order to motivate staff.
Target group and social impact
The target group for this system will be hospitals and other economic sectors which have a high demand for hand disinfection and hygiene in general. Every stakeholder of those should benefit from our idea in one way or the other. Be it the staff, finally getting credit for their daily devotion, the patients/customers, with their health and wellbeing not beeing put in jeopardy, or even companies, that can boost their reputaion and gather data at a single blow. This has the potential to not only give participants yet another motivation for doing their job but to save money within the health care system (up to around 2 billion a year).
Competences of the applicant
We are students of business informatics at the University of Applied Sciences in Stralsund, who are supported by different professors and staff of our university. Furthermore, different individuals and companies assist us in defining our strategy and solving problems we might encounter along that way.
